School Tote Bag Pattern
Materials: -Bernat country cotton in caramel (or cotton yarn of your choice) - size G crochet hook - 1 yard fabric of your choice ( I used a striped cotton fabric from Joann) - matching thread and sewing needle to sew lining - safety pin to mark last round
Instructions:
+Bottom: Using the G hook, chain (ch) 2. Make 8 single crochets(sc) in the first ch, do not join round, place safety pin in last sc. Working in half double crochet (hdc), increase 8 stitches evenly in each of the subsequent rounds until bag bottom measures about 13 inches in diameter or however large you want it. For example: On 1st increase round, work 2 hdc in each stitch. On 2nd increase round, work 2 hdc in forst stitch, work 1 hdc in next stitch, repeat. On 3rd increase round, work 2 hdc in first stitch, work 1 hdc each in next 2 stitches, repeat. Continue in this manner, increasing the spacing between increases one stitch each round and moving the safety pin to mark the ends of the rounds. DO NOT BIND OFF.
+Bag Sides: Row 1. Work 1 round sc even (no increases) Row 2. Work 1 round sc even (no increases) Row 3. Work 1 treble crochet(tc) in first stitch, ch2, skip next 2 stitches, work 1 tc in next stitch. Repeat around.Repeat these three rows until bag measures about 10 inches or as long as you desire.Work three rounds of sc on top to finish. Fasten off.
+Handles: To place shoulder strap, divide bag in four equal sections. Two opposing sections will be the shoulder strap. On one strap section, work 20 hdc. Working back and forth, decrease one stitch at each end until strap is 2 and 1/2 inches across. Stop decreasing and continue working back and forth in hdc until strap is 14 inches. Repeat for second strap. With right sides together, crochet tops of straps together.
+Finishing: Tie in loose ends and sew in lining across handle and inside of bag. BAM! You're done! Please let me know what you think of this pattern. If your on ravelry, my username is DestinysRose. Please drop me an opinion or suggestions!
